In the late 1800's a large golden crown was the cause of quite a bit of controversy in Paris.
Russian art dealer Schapschelle Hochmann claimed the crown was discovered near Olbia, in present day Ukraine. At the time, Greek and Scythian art was highly valued, and the inscription indicated it was a gift from a Greek colony called Olbia to a Scythian king 'Saitaphernes'.
Despite being rejected by both The Imperial Court Museum in Vienna and the British Museum, Saitapherne's Tiara finally found a home at France's mainstay of art history and culture, the Louvre.
This would later become a problem for the museum, as Saitaphernes' Tiara was a complete forgery.
